A Christian is defined as a follower of Jesus Christ. Someone who believes in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Savior, and who accepts of the teachings, contained in the Holy Bible. With that being said we have to take note of anyone calling themselves “Christian mediums” because based upon the scriptures, the two contradict each other.
A medium is generally defined as somebody believed to be sensitive to the supernatural. Someone who is believed to be able to perceive things that are usually beyond the range of human senses, or transmit messages between living people and the spirits of the dead. They may also use various charms, and objects to help them connect or communicate with the spirit world. You also see them referred to as psychics, fortune-tellers, soothsayers, clairvoyants, necromancers, palm or tarot card readers, shamans, or spiritists. While their sensitivity to the supernatural realm is very possible, the agents or methods in which they receive information is the problem. Right now you may see commercials on TV for a company called California Psychics and how “reliable” they are and how they helped people obtain various things through the information given. You may have heard of shows such as Long Island Medium, Crossing Over with John Edward, or Ghost Whisperer, people claiming to be able to communicate with the dead. Katy Perry performed her song “Dark Horse” at the 2014 Grammys and the theme of the performance was witchcraft, riddled with objects like a huge crystal ball (known to be used by clairvoyants), a haunted forest and pole dancing on broomsticks, mimicking being burnt at the stake like a Salem witch. Perry, as reported in interviews, said she wanted the song to have a "witchy, spell-y kind of black magic-y idea", so she wrote it from the perspective of a witch warning a man not to fall in love with her because if he does, she will be his last. I remember in the late 90s to early 2000s popular psychics like Sylvia Brown who was a regular guest on Montel Williams. And who can forget the Jamaican-accented, Ms. Cleo who captivated many people into her Psychic Readers Network hotline of friends until various lawsuits and charges of deceptive advertising and of fraud put her out of business.
The reason I’m sharing on this subject is because this area has been one God has continually shown me his burden over. These things are no longer, obscure practices, going on behind closed doors by those who are unsaved. These practices have crept their way out into the open, even being glorified by well-known people & various media methods. The most dangerous part: it has slid its way into the church being disguised as "Christianity" and it is not only influencing, but corrupting the body of Christ from lack of knowledge. Many Christians are not aware what God’s Word says about these practices so we can’t even take notice, expose, or warn others. Consulting psychics & promoting info obtained through these outlets are made to seem perfectly fine and harmless by the general public, when the bible is clear that there are physical and spiritual consequences to the practice and inquiring of these people.

[[This leaves us with a very important lesson brothers & sisters in Christ: If you’re out here living in continual sin and disobedience, you grieve the Holy Spirit of God [Ephesians 4:30] and place yourself in a backslidden condition putting your soul back in danger (Galatians 1:6;3:1;4:9-11;5:7). Just as in Saul's case this can keep you from clearly hearing & being guided by Him. This is the Spirit of Truth Jesus told us in John 14:15-17 that the Father gave to those who are born-again and obey his commands. God continues to communicate with us today through the Holy Spirit. He speaks to us, convicts us of sin, reminds of the truth of God’s Word, reveals things that man would not otherwise know on his own, and although not the last or least, He gives us power over the demonic kingdom.]]
The prophet Isaiah states in the book of Isaiah 8:19-20 “Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? Should the living seek guidance from the dead? Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark.” Don’t let others talk you into seeking out mediums or anyone else of their kind. Our counsel and guidance should come from the Holy Spirit & the Word of God. He also states in Isaiah 44:24-26 "This is what the Lord says--your Redeemer and Creator: “I am the Lord, who made all things. I alone stretched out the heavens. Who was with me when I made the earth? I expose the false prophets as liars and make fools of fortune-tellers. I cause the wise to give bad advice, thus proving them to be fools. But I carry out the predictions of my prophets!...."
Prophecy, Prophets and the prophetic office are still in operation today (1 Corinthians 12:28; Ephesians 2:20 and 3:5), so it is very possible to attend prophetic or regular church services where words are shared to the glory of God because as explained in 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14 it is a gift to strengthen, encourage and comfort the body of Christ until He returns. Whatever the Holy Spirit shares through prophecy will be something to set people free from sin, delivering people from the bondage of any demonic influence or presence. It’s information or instructions that they would not privy to by their own means. It may even be a word of warning, judgment or correction, but whatever it is will be to show you that Jesus Christ is Lord, and is the only way to the God the Father, the source of all truth and giver of eternal life.
Until next time, may the Lord bless you – Nikki
