God speaks to Joshua after Moses's death, letting him know that He had chosen him to lead the children of Israel now that they had finally made it to the Promised Land. He let Joshua know that every place he tread upon - from the Mediterranean, to Euphrates, and even into the wilderness of Lebanon was his.
1) God appointed him (Numbers 27:18-23)
2) He was the only other eyewitness to the Egyptian plagues and exodus. (plagues in Exodus 7-12)
3) He was Moses's personal aide for 40 years.
4) Of the 12 spies, only he & Caleb showed complete confidence that God would help them conquer the inhabitants of the land.
--- So because Joshua had assisted Moses all those years, he was well-prepared for this leadership role. If you want to be a leader you must learn from others so that you can be well-prepared when the doors of opportunities open.
I could imagine why God had to comfort Joshua & encourage him to be strong. His new role was to lead over 2 million people into new territory. As God "enlarges my territory" for 2015 and I take on new leadership roles, I have to be reminded the same. This requires new responsibilities & commitments that required me to make significant changes so that I can be effective. Things like my everyday roles at work as a lead help me not only for future promotions, but to train or DISCIPLE others to take my place once I am gone on to something else. This is the role of the church as well - disciple the people to go out and do work for God's kingdom. I appreciate the women and men of God that he has placed me under the last 6 years. Those are the Moses'es of my life, by their training and equipping me through the Holy Spirit so that once they are no longer with me or we go forward in new directions, I will be prepared to "inhabit the land" God has for me.
There will be challenges, temptations, and difficult people along the way, just as Moses, Aaron & Joshua encountered, but I can remember from their examples that by being obedient, and faithful, by meditating in God's Word everyday (Psalm 1:2-3) and stay focused, that I will prosper in wherever I do. I shall have success & most importantly, my Heavenly Father will be with me wherever I go.
PRAYER: Lord, help me be strong & of good courage on this journey of leading those within my sphere of influence. I rebuke all fear and doubt, putting faith in your promise to be with me wherever I go -- AMEN
